RUTLEDGE (WATE) - Two people were killed in a Grainger County house fire Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. at a home on Brantley Acres just off Helton Road in Rutledge, according to Grainger County Chief Deputy Charles Biddle.

A mother and her young son were killed in the fire.

The cause remains under investigation. State fire and bomb investigators expect to be at the scene for the remainder of the day.

The Red Cross is assisting the survivors of the fire.
