KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One of the low scoring restaurants this week failed its inspection; the other just got by, but had some critical violations.

Rouxbarb, 130 Northshore Drive - Grade: 68

The health department considers a grade below 70 as unsanitary.

Problems with plumbing and sewage really hurt the health inspection grade. There was a drainage problem with a handsink and it's scheduled to be repaired.

The inspector found food temperature violations at Rouxbarb.

Also, some food was found stored in front of a handsink, which is the wrong place. It belongs in dry storage to keep it safe and out of the way of foot traffic.

Coop Cafe, 3701 Sutherland Avenue - Grade: 71

That is a passing score.

When the inspector checked the cooler, it wasn't holding temperature. As a result, some food was too warm. Since the inspection, it's been fixed.

Also, hot water coming out of handsinks was below 90 degrees. Between 90 and 120 degrees is the proper hot temperature.

Top scores of the week:

  • Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square - Grade: 96
  • Wendy's, 8305 Kingston Pike - Grade: 95
  • Starbucks, 100 Merchants Drive - Grade: 95
  • Subway, 446 Cedar Bluff Road - Grade: 95
  • Aubrey's, 7535 Conner Road - Grade: 94
  • B&G Catering, 7231 Tazewell Pike - Grade: 94
  • Subway, 7335 Tazewell Pike - Grade: 92

In general, health inspectors check to make sure safeguards are in place to protect food from contamination by food handlers, cross-contamination, and other sources.

Also, they watch food temperatures closely and sanitation. If you notice a problem, let management know.
