PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - A rental cabin was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning in Sevier County.

Firefighters arrived at the scene on Easy Street just outside Pigeon Forge just before 7 a.m.

The cabin had not been rented and was empty.

Officials describe the cabin as a total loss. Two cars near the cabin received a small amount of heat damage.

Walden's Creek volunteer firefighters were aided by Pigeon Forge and Wears Valley fire departments.

"The cabin was fully involved. The roof was about to collapse in, so we did a defensive attack, tried to make notification to the cabin company to make sure no one was here," said Donnie Shular, assistant chief with the Walden's Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

Officials are still trying to determine how the cabin caught on fire. The fire marshal was on the scene Wednesday to investigate.
