CLINTON (WATE) - A horse owner is accused of animal cruelty and faces more charges after the seizure of two horses Wednesday.

Jason Thomas Shipley was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with cruelty to animals. The horses, named George and William, were brought to rescue group Horse Haven of Tennessee.

Horse Haven says it was called in by Anderson County Animal Control, which had first taken the horses to the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine for evaluation.

Sonja Cowsert with Horse Haven says the animals are doing well and "thankful for the hay and a dry place to stay."

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office website, Jason Shipley is also charged with failure to appear, two counts of passing worthless checks, theft and pawning or conveying rental property.
