SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - Black Friday actually started Thursday night at a Sevier County shopping complex, in a tradition that seems to be shifting more and more. Tanger Outlet Mall opened at 10 p.m. Thursday night, and closed at 10 p.m. Friday.

When Shea Buchman started shopping overnight, she waited in long lines.

"Everybody waited over an hour and a half just to get in a store," Buchman said.

"Yeah, there was lines, pretty much throughout the whole mall," Journeys store employee Dakota Taylor said.

But by early Friday, parking spots weren't hard to find at the Tanger Outlet Mall.

"Whenever people get tired I guess they start to fade out," Taylor said.

But not Lindsay Stubblefield, who plans to shop nearly 24 hours straight.

"It's a tradition. We go every year. We've been going out for the past six years," Stubblefield said.

She says this year is her favorite.

"This year is completely different because I think it started much earlier. We didn't get here until later so I think all the crowds had basically died down, so we were able to shop much more freely and with ease," Stubblefield said.

The earlier the stores open, the more hours the employees have to put in, but some say they are actually having fun working through the night.

"At first it was pretty busy, then it kind of slowed down. Overall it went pretty good," Fossil store employee Jacqueline Cases said.

After being up all night, store employees and shoppers say there's one thing on their mind.

"About to go home and get in my bed," Buchman said.

"I plan to go home and sleep some before I have to come in tomorrow and work again," Cases said.

The Tanger Outlet Mall will continue sales this weekend, starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
