Apartment fire displaces several Oak Ridge families

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Several people have been displaced following a fire at an Oak Ridge apartment complex on Saturday night.

The Oak Ridge Fire Department say they responded to reports of a fire at the McKenzie Acres apartment complex around 9:20 p.m.

Crews say they were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arrival, but that the apartment sustained serious fire damage.

Officials say some of the surrounding apartments also sustained water and smoke damage.

Authorities say all eight of the affected apartment units were occupied at the time of the fire.

Around 25 people, including several children, were displaced by the blaze. The building will be without power for several days until repairs can be made.

The American Red Cross is working with the families to assist with temporary shelter while they are displaced.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
