KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Monday is the last day to donate to an effort to raise money for a Knox County campaign to place wreaths on veterans' graves.

So far more than $20,000 has been raised for the county's Wreaths Across America campaign, which amounts to more than 2,000 wreaths. The first $5,000 donated was matched by a sponsorship from Pilot Flying J.

Priority Ambulance donated another $5,000 on Monday.

Mayor Tim Burchett launched the effort last week. The campaign aims to place a wreath on the grave of each of the 6,200 veterans buried at two East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery locations in Knox County.

The mayor's office says more funding is needed to reach that goal. Sponsorships of $15 per wreath are available through the Knox County website through Monday.

The wreaths will be placed on graves December 14.
