ETOWAH (WATE) - A wanted man from Robertson County was killed in a shootout with police officers in Etowah Monday evening.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it was called to investigate a shooting involving two Etowah Police Department officers and a suspect who was shot and critically injured at the Bi-Lo at the intersection of Highway 411 and Highway 30.

The incident started when an Etowah officer attempted to pull over David Greenwood, 49, for a traffic violation. Police say Greenwood then backed up his vehicle into the officer's patrol vehicle before fleeing.

Two additional officers tried to stop Greenwood, but he drove several hundred yards and exited his vehicle with a gun. The two officers fired their weapons, striking Greenwood.

Greenwood was taken to UT Medical Center where he later died.

Greenwood had been a person of interest in a Robertson County death investigation where a woman was found dead in a burned out home early Sunday.

No officers were hurt in the incident. The names of the officers involved have not been released.
