Anderson County, Clinton schools receive grants from Coca-Cola Foundation

CLINTON (WATE) - The Coca-Cola Foundation awarded $25,000 grants to Anderson County Schools and Clinton City Schools Tuesday. The grants will help each district launch programs to encourage students to be active and eat healthy.

Clinton City Schools will use the money to launch its Get Moving! program. Clinton officials hope to increase physical activity for its approximately 1,000 students by establishing year-round club sport teams, which will provide all students a chance to participate on a sports team.

The program will also teach students about the importance of a balanced diet, allowing students to track their physical activity and eating habits so the schools can evaluate their progress.

Meanwhile, Anderson County Schools will use the grant money to ensure their students and the community have access to more fruits and vegetables by planting and maintaining community gardens.

Through its "Making a Difference Through Community Gardens" program, ACS will build three community gardens to improve food quality in schools and provide access to more fresh food within the community.
