KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The two low scoring restaurants this week have identical health inspection grades, which are considered unsanitary by the health department.

Asia Cafe, 6714 Central Avenue Pike - Grade: 66

This is one we haven't seen before. The inspector writes the kitchen staff tucked towels into their uniforms. Then, after handling food, the inspector watched them wipe their hands on these towels instead of washing their hands like they're supposed to.

The inspector writes that sushi and other seafood were not being properly thawed, and she found lots of food stored uncovered.

In the walk in-cooler, food was being stored on the floor. Yet, there were unused racks in the cooler where the food is supposed to be stored to reduce the possibility of it getting dirty.

Asia Cafe has been re-inspected; the new grade is a respectable 83.

Soccer Taco, 6701 Kingston Pike - Grade: 66

The temperature of cheese dip was not cool enough, causing a potential hazard.

The inspector writes no soap or towels were provided at the kitchen hand sink.

Also, the weed killer Round-Up and a pesticide were found stored next to cleaning chemicals. That might not seem like a problem, but it could potentially be big deal if the pesticide or weed killer was mistakenly used to clean your table.

Update: Coop Cafe, 3701 Sutherland Avenue - Grade: 85

Here's an update on another low scoring restaurant. The Coop Cafe on Sutherland improved its grade from a 71 to 85 after being re-inspected.

Top grades of the week:

  • Cakery Bakery, 9116 Robinwood Lane - Grade: 97
  • Kitts Cafe, 4620 Greenway Drive - Grade: 95
  • Scrumps Cupcakes, 106 Hotel Avenue - Grade: 95
  • Firehouse Subs, 10728 Hardin Valley Road - Grade: 94
  • Snappy Tomato Pizza, 5908 Washington Pike - Grade: 94
  • Cook-Out, 6920 Kingston Pike - Grade: 93
  • Sushi Spot, 7535 Barnett Way - Grade: 93
  • Toots Little Honky Tonk, 114 E. Anderson Avenue - Grade: 93

Those high inspection grades mean that restaurant staff and management know the heath rules and follow them to make sure you receive wholesome food.
