COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Webb running back Todd Kelly, Jr. has been showered with awards all week, but he always pointed to a Thursday showdown with St. George's in the state championship game.

Kelly rushed for 248 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Spartans defeated the Gryphons 28-14 to win their second straight Blue Cross Bowl Div. II-A state title.

Kelly got the scoring started on the second play from scrimmage, romping 62-yards for a touchdown. Webb missed the PAT and took a 6-0 lead.

The Spartans made it 14-0 when Kelly ran 27-yards for a touchdown and then converted a 2-point play.

St. George's tied the game 14-14 on a 3-yard run by Dean Brown and a 74-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Corey Jones.

Matthew Melton's 3rd quarter interception stopped a Gryphon's drive and Melton later scored on a 26 yard run to give Webb at 21-14 lead with :38 left in the 3rd quarter.

Kelly added a fourth quarter touchdown on an 8 yard run to make it 28-14.

The win gives Webb four state titles since 2009.

It is head coach Dave Meske's sixth career state championship.
