GATLINBURG (WATE) - The National Park Service Southeast Region office in Atlanta announced Monday it has selected Pedro Ramos as the acting superintendent of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Ramos will serve in that position for 90 days, beginning on January 12. Ramos has been superintendent at Big Cypress National Preserve since 2009.

The current Smokies superintendent, Dale Ditmanson, announced in September he plans to retire on January 3, 2014, after 36 years with the National Park Service. Ditmanson has served as superintendent since May 2004.
