KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A trio of criminals is targeting assisted living facilities to get some extra cash.

Several senior-living homes have been hit recently in the Knoxville area. Surveillance video at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living on Cross Park Drive caught the three suspects entering their front doors on November 20.

Kathy Coffey, the senior care counselor, greeted them.

"They were very friendly," said Coffey. "It's just like so many of our families who come in. They seemed concerned about their grandmother."

The three asked if they could sit in the lobby for few minutes because they had a couple of other family members who wanted to join them for a tour of the facility.

That's when Coffey then made a quick trip to the bathroom. While she was gone, one of the suspects went around the corner, into the office of Executive Director Joy Hall.

That is where they found her purse and stole two credit cards and her driver's license, leaving her cash behind.

When Coffey came back from the bathroom, the three women were gone. They had only been inside the building for 12 minutes.

Hall did not find out anything had been stolen until the next day.

"My credit card company called me that my credit card had been stolen and used," she said.

The suspects spent $2,000 at Best Buy off Cedar Bluff, and well over $6,000 at other stores. After falling victim, Hall sent out an e-mail to other assisted living facilities in the area.

Two others, one off Middlebrook Pike and one in Farragut  were visited by the three women.

"One of the girls was very, very short," said Coffey. "The other two ladies, one was very tall. The other was probably my height, very well dressed."

The employees at Arbor Terrace felt it was important to let everyone in the community know about what these three suspects are doing.

"I just hope they catch these people because the sad thing is we are not the only persons this has happened to," said Coffey.

Hall says they have made several changes since this theft happened. They are now locking their offices when they are not there, and making sure their purses are secured as well.

If you have any information on who these three suspects are, you are asked to call the Knoxville Police Department at 865-215-7212.
