Kentucky man shot in the face following apparent argument

WOODBINE, KY (WATE) - A Corbin man was transported to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot in the face during an argument.

The Kentucky State Police says they were responding to a call for assistance from the Knox County Sheriff's Department after a shooting was reported on Prewitt Road in Woodbine.

Troopers say they found 50-year-old Chris Dinkins of Corbin suffering from a hand gun wound to the face upon arrival.

Troopers took 86-year-old Fred Meyer of Woodbine into custody following the incident.

Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates that Dinkins was sitting in his vehicle at Meyer's residence with a 16-year-old boy in the vehicle.

An argument began between Dinkins and Meyers, that's when officials say Meyer fired one shot at Dinkins, striking him in the face.

Dinkins was taken to Baptist Health in Corbin before later being transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

His condition is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported.

Meyers has been charged with first degree assault and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation.
