Knox County Holiday Festival of Lights kicks off Friday night

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County's annual Holiday Festival of Lights at The Cove at Concord Park kicked off Friday night and runs until Dec. 28.

A special kick-off event was held Friday evening at the park, located at 11808 S. Northshore Drive. During the event, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett flipped the switch to turn on the lights and start the festival.

The Webb School Madrigal Singers was scheduled to sing carols and Publix was serving free cider.

Santa Claus is also expected to make an appearance.

The festival has grown over the past few years with new displays and a series of lights coordinated to music. Visitors walk the three-quarter mile greenway trail to view the lights. Pets on leashes are welcome.

Park staff does all the decorating, including placing displays, hanging lights and building bonfires for roasting marshmallows.

The event is free of charge, but non-perishable food items will be accepted for The Love Kitchen.

The Festival of Lights runs each night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through December 28, except for Christmas Day.
