KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Authorities say one person was killed Friday night in a single vehicle crash on I-40.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday night near mile marker 372 in West Knox County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

THP says a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer being driven by 33-year-old Claudia Vazquez was traveling east when it veered off the roadway and hit an embankment.

The vehicle overturned, Vazquez and two passengers in the vehicle were ejected.

Vazquez was killed in the crash. Troopers say 56-year-old Ofelia Guichapa and 40-year-old Maria Estrada were injured.

Officials say neither Guichapa or Estrada were wearing their seatbelts. THP has not yet determined if Vazquez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Traffic was backed up as crews worked the scene. All lanes reopened just before 8 p.m.

U.T. Medical Center says Guichapa is in critical condition, and Estrada is in fair condition.
