KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tobi Kilgore apparently likes a challenge-- and now he has a new one.
Kilgore resigned as head football coach at Powell on Friday and will take over at Knox County rival Karns.
Kilgore told 6 Sports on Friday that he looks forward to the opportunity to build the Beavers' football program.
"It's all about building a winning attitude," Kilgore said. "The big thing is there is talent in that community. There is a good middle school program and those kids can feed into the high school."
"Karns has been successful in other sports, but for some reason football has not been as consistent. We need to teach the kids to win," he said.
The former Central High assistant coach spent one season as head coach at Powell. He said the decision to leave was difficult, but cited a connection with the current Karns administration and his desire to advance his career off the football field.
"I didn't plan on leaving Powell after eight months," said Kilgore. "This is also an opportunity to grow professionally in education (administration)-- not just in coaching."
