CLARKSVILLE (WKRN/WATE) - A soldier is facing drunk driving charges after the fatal hit-and-run of another soldier this weekend.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, Pfc. Austin McReynolds, 21, had been at the O'Connors Irish Pub and Grille and then left the bar on foot. He was later struck by a vehicle 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Investigators say the vehicle then left the scene.

McReynolds is a 2011 graduate of Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville, according to his former football coach Randy McKamey.

The driver of that vehicle has been identified as Capt. David Elliott, 26, of Ft. Benning, Ga. Elliott admitted to officers that he had also been at O'Connors Irish Pub and Grill where he consumed some alcoholic drinks before getting into his car. He told investigators he believed he struck a deer.

Elliott is charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, driving on a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident.

Elliott was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Sunday. He is being held without bond until seeing a Montgomery County judge Monday.
