206 arrested in KCSO's holiday enforcement

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office says its Safer Holidays Task Force is already seeing results, arresting 206 people since November 25.

The task force is a joint effort between the sheriff's office and the retail industry, created in 2011 by Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones.

Under the program, law enforcement, prosecutors and law enforcement professionals combat retail theft, car burglaries, car thefts, forgery, fraud and other criminal activities that happen during the holiday shopping season.

The task force is made up of officers from patrol, detectives and schools in marked and unmarked cars. They may wear plain clothes or uniforms.

The sheriff's office says retailers welcome the extra security.
