KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A funeral service for former Vol basketball player Dyron Nix will be held on Thursday in Atlanta.
Nix died on Sunday after being admitted to a hospital for breathing difficulties. He was 46.
Friend and former Vol Clarence Swearengen said a service will be held at Destiny Metropolitan World Church at 1775 Water Place SE in Atlanta at 11 a.m.
Swearengen will serve as a pall bearer.
Nix played for the Vols from 1985-1989.
He is Tennessee's 8th leading scorer and 3rd leading rebounder.
"Dyron Played above the rim, that was his game," said Swearengen on Monday.
"He loved dunks and that was a show for him. He had good speed for a 6-7 power forward. He just played hard every night."
"He compared very favorably to Dominique Wilkins with his unbelievable athletic ability,' said former Vol Mark Griffin.
"As someone who faced him in practice every day, I can assure you he took great pleasure in taking it to his teammates. He was very competitive."
