MARYVILLE (WATE) - Officials are checking a Maryville church for structural integrity after a truck crashed into it Friday afternoon.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp says the driver was heading south on Lamar Alexander Parkway when he had some sort of malfunction.

The driver lost control, crossed the median, and crashed into Foothills Church, 1551 W Lamar Alexander Parkway.

The driver was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the building was extensively damaged and they are checking to see if it is structurally sound.

The truck, which belongs to Caughron and Company, was carrying landscaping items.
