KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The cash registers at the Fountain City Walgreen's were busy all day on Christmas Eve. Many at the store were there to pick up last minute items and to finish up their shopping list.

"I forgot about my nephew, so I ran in here quickly to get him a gift card to Starbucks, which he loves," said shopper Debra Barbee.

"It's a leg lamp. I have a friend that wanted one," said shopper Kay Kinsler, showing us her purchase.

Others waited until Christmas Eve to buy presents for every single person they had to shop for.

"I'm pretty stressed. I didn't get paid until today. I had to go out and buy a bunch of gifts for my family and friends. I went to five different places. I had to find  a place to park. I had to go to the mall, Gamestop, Walmart. I need a nap," described an exhausted Logan Black.

Staff at Walgreen's say they know that the kind of customer walking into their store is someone not looking to waste a whole lot of time.

"We want to make sure what customers are looking for is front and center," explained store manager Lisa Bower.

In the end, the shopping element of the holiday is just frosting on the Christmas cake. For most, it's about a whole lot more.

"Getting presents and spending time with my friends and family," Black said.

"Being with my family. I'm a cancer survivor who is 20 months in. So I'm very excited, I got a clean bill of health a week ago," Barbee said.

"Oh my friends. My big thing is just visiting friends," Kinsler said.
