Knoxville woman brought to hospital with gunshot wound

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police are investigating after a woman was shot Monday.

Officials say the victim was dropped off at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center around 11:40 p.m. on the 1900 block of Clinch Avenue.

Rural/Metro personnel say a vehicle pulled up to them with a female passenger who had been shot more than once.

EMT's assisted the woman out of the vehicle and into the emergency room.

The victim says she was not sure exactly where she was shot but it happened somewhere on Western Avenue near Interstate 640.

Knoxville police identified the woman as Nyasha McCoy, 39, of Knoxville.

McCoy told officials her friend drove her to the hospital and that she did not want to prosecute anyone for shooting her.  She also indicated that she had been drinking.

Officers located the victim's friend and his vehicle on Western Avenue near Texas Avenue.  The male was interviewed by investigators and was later released.
