Pedestrian dies after being struck on I-24 in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 50-year-old pedestrian who was struck while walking along Interstate 24 West in Nashville Thursday night has died.

Police said James Begley was hit by a 31-year-old driver around 7 p.m. near mile marker 50, just west of Fesslers Lane.

The preliminary investigation shows the driver swerved to the left to avoid hitting Begley, but struck another vehicle causing her to strike the man.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident initially denied hitting Begley.

Begley was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries where he died.

Police said there is no indication of alcohol or drug involvement. The investigation is ongoing.
