JACKSBORO (WATE) - A Campbell County deputy died suddenly at his home this week.

Deputy Bill Tackett passed away on Christmas Eve, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Robbie Goins said "It is with the heaviest hearts and with the most heartfelt sadness that we have to report the passing of one of our most dedicated and ethical members of our court security division, Deputy Bill Tackett."

In a show of respect, The Scott County Sheriff's Office gave an order that deputies will wear mourning bands on their badges in memory of Deputy Tackett.

Chief Deputy Ronnie Phillips of SCSO said that because Campbell County deputies showed so much support to Scott County during the loss of their sheriff, Mike Cross, they wanted to return that support and thank Deputy Tackett for his service.
