Clouds and rain move in over the weekend

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Hopefully you enjoyed the sunshine over the past few days, because clouds, and eventually some rain, will return over the weekend.

We will remain mostly clear overnight with lows dropping back in the upper 20s for most, so grab the coat if you will be heading out tonight.

The clouds will quickly thicken from south to north across the region on Saturday, but most will remain dry during the daylight hours and most will still see slightly above average readings in the low-mid 50s.

Rain will be likely Saturday night as an area of low pressure move northeastward across the Mountains and the showers will linger into early Sunday.

We should dry out some Sunday afternoon, but the clouds will linger and highs will only reach the upper 40s to around 50°.

Colder air moves back in on Monday and it will try to wring out some moisture from the overcast sky in the form of some light snow showers or random flurries. I don't see any major accumulations with this as surface temperatures will be a tad too warm.

Drier and quieter weather returns for the last day of 2013 and the first day of 2014 with below average temperatures both days.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Low: 29°.

SATURDAY: Limited sunshine. High: 55°.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Rain likely (80% coverage). Low: 41°.

SUNDAY: Showers linger; especially early (80% coverage). Otherwise mostly cloudy. High: 50°.
