KNOXVILLE (WATE)- An East Knoxville pastor and long time civil rights activist has announced he's retiring.
Reverend Harold Middlebrook with the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ is retiring after nearly 34 years.
The 71-year-old worked with Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior and helped to form the Knoxville Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Coalition.
Although his last sermon will be this Sunday, he has no plans to take it easy.
He'll still be involved in many organizations and stand up for social issues in the community.
Reverend Middlebrook says he's also looking forward to spending more time with his grand children and great grandchildren.
