KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A routine traffic stop turned into a car chase and ended with a man being tased Sunday afternoon.

Knox County Sheriff Deputy Chad May pulled over the driver of a red Honda on Highland View Road in South Knox County. Deputy May says the driver, Gregory Grayson, smelled like alcohol and told the deputy his name was Jimmy Brown.

A passenger in the car, Mary Jane Crane, gave a false name as well.

The two fled after being asked to exit the vehicle and a chase ensued along Chapman Highway. The chase ended on Bays Mountain Road and the two fled on foot.

The deputy says he shot Grayson with a taser, but he continued to resist arrest.

An officer on the scene helped detain Crane while Deputy May put Grayson in handcuffs.

Grayson eventually admitted to drinking before he got behind the wheel.

Rural/Metro was called to the scene to treat Deputy May and Grayson for minor abrasions sustained during the struggle.
