Frugalissa shares top January deals

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Melissa Cox shared some ways to save money this January on Monday on Good Morning Tennessee.

Cox, who blogs under the name Frugalissa, appears each week to share her top finds of the week.

Here are the top ways to save this January:

  • Discounted Fitness Equipment: January is a great time to get a deal on fitness equipment. Look for elliptical trainers, home gyms, stationary bikes, treadmills, training accessories and sports/workout DVDs that are marked 30 to 70% off. It is also a great time to get discounted equipment and apparel for winter sports.
  • Clothing: In January you will see deep discounts on winter clothing and accessories. It will be 50 to 80% off.
  • Home Furniture: New 2014 furniture collections come out in February typically so retailers want to clear their old inventory in January. Just a heads up May is the best time to purchase a new mattress, but many mattress retailers offer deep discounts as well in January.
  • Christmas Clearance: Right now is a great time to buy an artificial tree since they can be 70 to 90% off. Christmas ornaments and decorations are also 70 to 90% off.  Stock up on stocking stuffer type things either for little gifts for kids or to put stuff in goody bags for birthday parties.
  • Shop for a Television…But Don't Buy Just Yet: Retailers are consolidating their television inventory from 2013 to make room new models. The best time to get a good deal on a television is at the end of January early February. So be on the lookout for a sale and discount.
