Human skeletal remains found in Knoxville wooded area

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police are investigating after construction crews found skeletal remains in a wooded area off Middlebrook Pike.

Officers say they received the call around 11:22 a.m. on Middlebrook Pike near Knott Road.

Police department investigators and investigators from the medical examiner's office were on the scene Monday afternoon recovering the adult-sized remains.

Officials do not yet know how long the remains have been in the woods, if the remains are male or female, or how the person died.

The remains were removed from the site and taken to the medical examiner's office. Officers expect it will take several days before any information on the remains is discerned.

Police say no foul play is suspected and the person may have been homeless. No personal items were found near the remains.
