New Year's Eve gatherings planned around East Tennessee


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Several events are planned around East Tennessee for revelers to ring in 2014.

  • Market Square, Knoxville - Music begins around 9 p.m. The ball drops at 11:59 p.m. and fireworks start at midnight. The ice rink will be open until midnight as well.
  • Gatlinburg - Free music and entertainment in the parking lot adjacent to the Gatlinburg Convention Center. he ball drop and fireworks show will be around the intersection of the Parkway and Historic Nature Trail at the base of the Space Needle.
  • Smoky Mountain Opry in Pigeon Forge - The Opry will be holding its first-ever New Year's Eve celebration. The award-winning holiday variety show begins at 9 p.m. with an after-party featuring a meet and greet with the cast, heavy Hors d'oeuvres and big screen TVs showing the ball drop in New York City. Tickets are $59.95 per person plus tax.
  • The East Tennessee Discovery Center is hosting a kid-friendly New Year's Eve celebration at noon on New Year's Eve. Tickets are $10 or $8 per person, depending on membership.
