GATLINBURG (WATE) - On the heels of a busy holiday season, winter weather is getting ready to hit East Tennessee, especially in the mountains.

6 News spoke to Gatlinburg tourists who say they welcome the snow.

"I'm from Miami, and we came here to see the snow. Hopefully we will see it soon. We've seen ice but not snow," Maggie Oilu said.

Oilu may get what she came for starting tomorrow afternoon, which could effect her plans to head home on Saturday.

"We may not be able to leave, it depends on the roads," Oilu said.

Kay King is the property manager for Mountain Laurel Chalets. She says that all 120 chalets are filled with travelers eager to see some white.

"The guests definitely want to see snow, but then when it happens and they're not prepared, it can be bad. But we try to reassure them that the roads are cleared relatively quickly downtown. Of course getting to the ski lodge off of the main road we recommend four-wheel drive or chains because it can get kind of dicey at times," King said.

A TDOT spokesman tells 6 News they are not pre-treating roads because rain is expected before the snow.
