NASHVILLE (AP) - An Alabama minister wanted for murder in his wife's stabbing death has been arrested at the Nashville International Airport trying to leave the country.

An affidavit said Richard Shahan was "red-flagged" when he booked a flight to Frankfurt, Germany. He was arrested as a fugitive from justice on Wednesday by Homeland Security and jailed in Davidson County.

Shahan's wife, Karen Shahan, was found dead in the couple's home in Homewood, Ala., on July 23 after she failed to show up for work.

Police questioned Richard Shahan in August but released him.

A statement from the First Baptist Church of Birmingham said Shahan had recently resigned from the church and was planning to work as a missionary in Kazakhstan.

Police said Shahan did not know about the warrant before his arrest.
