KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville man died Monday morning after being hit by a car Sunday night.

Officers say a 17-year-old male was driving an Oldsmobile Alero westbound on Middlebrook Pike around 8 p.m. near Clyde Street.

He struck Charles Hurst, 55, as he was trying to cross the street.

The driver told police he didn't see Hurst until just before he hit him.

Hurst later died at UT Medical Center.

Witnesses told police Hurst, who was homeless, had been drinking all day and was on his way to the store to buy more alcohol.

No charges are expected to be filed in the incident.
