GREENEVILLE (WATE) - Frigid temperatures are leading area officials to open emergency shelters for residents Monday night.

Greene County Emergency Management opened its shelter at 5 p.m. at Hal Henard Elementary School, 425 E. Vann Road in Greeneville.

This is an effort to provide a safe, warm place for residents to stay during the freeze.

The shelter will provide cots, but residents will need to bring their own food, clothing and medications.

For more information, call (423) 798-1729.

The Red Cross also has a shelter in Blount County. The shelter opened at 4 p.m. at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church located at 814 Dotson Memorial Road.

Power outages have forced officials in Cumberland County to open a shelter in Crossville as well. It will be at Stone Memorial High School in Crossville.
