KNOXVILLE (WATE) - With the frigid cold temperatures, the American Red Cross is making sure people in need stay warm.

The local chapter donated more than 150 blankets to its partner organization The Salvation Army Monday.

The Salvation Army says the blankets will go to help its emergency assistance program.

Currently the shelter is stocked up, but officials are always looking for assistance in other programs.

"The fact of the matter is when it's this cold, a lot of people don't have the clothing or necessities they need to stay healthy in this kind of weather. So these blankets are going to be a huge help with our emergency assistance programs," said Rob Link with the Salvation Army.

"This is where the need is and these blankets can help some people. And that's why we're here to help people when they need it," said Benjamin Prijatel with the Red Cross.

The Salvation Army says if you need assistance in this cold weather, they have a 24-hour hotline at (865) 525-9401. You can call anytime of the day.
