Free e-waste recycling event this weekend in Knoxville


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An electronic waste recycling event will be held this Saturday at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville.

Knox County, the City of Knoxville, Optimist Club of West Knoxville and the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad are partnering to host the event Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park in the Midway Parking Lot on North Beaman Street.

The event is free of charge and features a drive-thru service to make recycling convenient. The event will take place rain or shine.

Items accepted include: computer equipment such as PC systems, CPUs, monitors, mice, keyboards, printers, scanners, laptops, modems, hard drives, speakers, power cords, cables,  power strips, desktop copiers, fax machines, cell phones, toner/ink cartridges, radios, microwaves, stereos, docking stations, CD ROMs, vacuum cleaners, rechargeable batteries, tape players and telephones.

Televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, smoke detectors, thermostats, light bulbs, electronic equipment containing hazardous chemicals, fire extinguishers, gas powered engines, stoves, scrap metal, car batteries, aluminum cans, cardboard, phone books and paper will not be accepted at the event.
