KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The former site of Knoxville's historic Regas Restaurant on Gay Street has been sold for $2 million.

Roger Moore with real estate brokerage Sperry Van Ness/R.M. Moore says the buyer was group called Regas Property LLC.

While Moore could not identify its members, he said the group feared other potential buyers were considering tearing down the building. Moore said the group felt the restaurant has too much history to bulldoze.

Moore told 6 News some potential tenants are looking at the property.

Regas closed on December 31, 2010 after over 90 years.
