TAZEWELL (WATE) - Residents in Grainger and Claiborne counties woke up without power Tuesday.

The Powell Valley Electric Cooperative spent Tuesday morning trying to fix the problems affecting communities like Springdale, Lone Mountain, and Raven Ridge.

The utility estimated the outages affected around 3,000 people.

Springdale resident Everett Pennington says he was caught off guard when the power went out around 3:00 Tuesday morning, turning off his breathing machine.  Pennington says he wasn't in real danger because he had a backup device, but power was out for nearly three hours before it was restored.

The Powell Valley Electric Cooperative says the power demand on Monday was the most ever for one day in the utility's history. Crews spent most of Tuesday replacing blown transmitters.

The utility says power was restored to all customers by Tuesday afternoon. The Powell Valley Electric Cooperative also serves parts of Virginia, where outages were also reported.

The utility doesn't expect any problems Tuesday night because temperatures are expected to warm up, resulting in less energy demand.
