KUB: Water may appear cloudy after water main repairs

Posted:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Utilities Board is advising customers that their water may temporarily appear milky or cloudy following water main repairs, but it is still safe to drink.

KUB says the record low temperatures over the last few days have resulted in a higher than normal occurrence of water main breaks.

Crews are working around the clock to quickly and safely make repairs.

The utility says water may temporarily appear milky or cloudy after the repairs, often the result of air trapped in water lines creating fine air bubbles.

KUB says the water is still safe to drink.

To ensure that air in the lines is causing the appearance, pour a glass of water, let it sit and see if it clears up. If it does, run the water for a few minutes to flush the lines and remove the air.

If the water does not clear up, you can call KUB at (865) 524-2911.
