PRICHARD, ALABAMA -
A production team from the nationally syndicated show COPS is in South Alabama. Producers and a camera team are following around officers to be featured in future episodes.
The crew started filming in Prichard on Monday and will be in town for about three weeks.
“They are in their 26th season they have come in and picked Prichard. They did do it up in New Jersey when I was the sheriff and they have done it in a lot of other venues,” said Police Chief Jerry Speziale.
The COPS team was with officers Wednesday night during an officer involved shooting. Their cameras were rolling as a suspect tried to run over an officer who had to return fire.
Chief Speziale says the exposure from the show will help show the effort his officers display on a daily basis.
“It's a very positive situation where this is not about the negative of Prichard, it is about a new Prichard and the police department that is moving forward in a progressive direction to make a safer Prichard,” said Speziale.
No date has been set for when the Prichard episodes will air.
