Charges to be dropped against Knox County Schools security guard in indecent exposure case

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Charges will be dropped against Knox County Schools security guard Dennis C. Murphy provided he stays out of trouble with the law.

Murphy was among nine men who were cited for indecent exposure at Tyson Park in Knoxville during an undercover operation on December 20.

Schools spokesperson Melissa Ogden says Murphy remains on leave with pay. He was not on duty at the time of the alleged incident.

Officials said nine men exposed themselves to an undercover officer at the restroom located next to the playground and tennis court. Police say the exposure was a way of signaling for a date.

Because Murphy has no previous criminal record, the judge said on January 3 his case will be dismissed provided he stays out of trouble and away from Tyson Park. He is scheduled to be back in court on April 17.
