KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police say an alleged fight over $10 led to one man being stabbed early Saturday morning on Market Square.

The Knoxville Police Department says officers were responding to reports of a stabbing around 1:15 a.m. when they found the victim, 42-year-old Byran Lee.

Police say Lee had sustained a major cut on the side of his neck, but that the object missed the blood vessels in his neck.

The suspect, 56-year-old Kyle Simpson, was apprehended a short time later on Gay Street after police were able to broadcast his description.

Authorities say it appears a fight broke out between the two because Lee allegedly owed Simpson $10, which Lee did not have.

Lee was transported non-emergency to UT Medical Center.

Simpson was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say the two did know each other prior to the incident.

Both Lee and Simpson gave their addresses as the Knox Area Rescue Ministry on North Broadway Street.
