GATLINBURG (WATE) - According to Gatlinburg officials, flooding in the north end of the city forced the evacuation of 6 people Saturday morning, Jan. 11.

The evacuation was issued in the area of the Medlin Addition Neighborhood.

Officials say three residents are now at the Red Cross Shelter at the Community Center in Gatlinburg.

The other three stayed with family members at separately owned properties.

According to officials, the excessive snow-melt and rainfall received this morning caused West Prong Bird Creek to flood into the apartment complex.

The water has since subsided, but Hemlock St. remains closed at this time.

The Red Cross says all of the displaced residents have now been allowed to return home.
