RUTLEDGE (WATE) - One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Grainger County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 73-year-old James Norton of New Market was driving on Owl Hole Gap Road just before 1 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a turn and slid out of control.

THP says Norton's truck then left the road, striking a utility pole with the front windshield. The truck then spun around and came to rest lying on the driver's side.

Norton's passenger, 86-year-old Margie Collier of Jefferson City, was killed in the crash. Norton was injured and taken to UT Medical Center for treatment. He is currently listed as being in stable condition.

No charges are pending at this time. Officials say that neither of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
