KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One man died when glare from the sun caused two crashes on Pellissippi Parkway.

Alcoa Police say they responded to a two-car accident in the eastbound lanes of Pellissippi Parkway between Topside Road and Alcoa Highway.

The driver of a Honda Accord, 28-year-old James Green of Knoxville, was momentarily blinded by the sun, causing him to rear-end a Ford Ranger driven by Eddy Palmer, 73 of Oliver Springs. There were no injuries related to this crash.

Palmer's truck was disabled and facing westbound in the eastbound, right-hand lane. Before officers arrived, Jason Cox, 39, of Knoxville, approached the scene of the wreck and hit the disabled Ford Ranger.

The Ranger then hit Palmer, who had exited his vehicle and was standing nearby, killing him. Palmer was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency personnel.

Cox also cited blinding sunlight as the reason for the second crash. He was taken to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Green was not injured during the wreck.

Rural/Metro and Alcoa firefighters assisted Alcoa police officers at the scene
