NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Nashville man was arrested Sunday evening after he allegedly struck an acquaintance in the head with a baseball bat.

Police were called to the 300 block of Tanglewood Court at the Whispering Oaks Apartments in south Nashville and were met by the victim, who was bleeding from behind his left ear.

The victim reported he was visiting and drinking beer with Donald Mainor, 59, when they began arguing over football teams.

The victim said his team had won and Mainor's team lost, causing him to get upset.

Mainor is accused of picking up a baseball bat and striking the victim in the head.

The victim said he lost consciousness for an unknown amount of time then ran to his apartment to call police.

Mainor, however, told police he attempted to strike the victim after he told him to leave and the victim instead stated, "Let me finish my beer first."

According to Mainor, the victim held up a beer bottle to block the blow, causing the bottle to them strike his head.

Mainor was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault.

He is being held on a $6,000 bond.
