CROSSVILLE (WATE) - Cumberland County officials found Friday what is believed to be the body of a missing Crossville man in a farm pond.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says it received an emergency call Friday afternoon concerning what appeared to be a human body in a farm pond at the end of Norris Road.

A citizen was on an ATV to check on cattle when he spotted the remains.

Officials were able to retrieve the remains from the pond. Due to the amount of decomposition, officials estimate the body had been there for a long period of time, possibly since October 2013.

A wallet was retrieved from the body, which contained identification and property belonging to John Richard Brown, 43.

Brown was reported missing from a family member's residence a short distance away in the Wind Ridge community on October 22, 2013.

Brown was legally blind, but had no other known health problems.

The area had been extensively searched since his disappearance.

The body was sent to the State of Tennessee Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville to determine the cause of death and for positive identification
