Hawkins County officials search for burglary, attempted murder suspects

SURGOINSVILLE (WATE) - The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office is searching for two men accused of burglarizing a Surgoinsville home. The two ran off in a hurry when the homeowners returned, striking one of them with their car.

Deputies say they responded to a home on Looney's Gap Road on January 8. The homeowner and his wife had been away from home and returned home around noon.

The homeowners saw a vehicle parked in their garage. When the homeowner approached the home, he saw two people in his carport attempting to load items from the home.

The suspects then got into their vehicle and attempted to exit the garage in a reckless manner.

Their vehicle sideswiped the garage wall on the passenger side and struck the homeowners' vehicle on the driver's side.

The homeowner himself was also hit by the suspects' vehicle during the incident, knocking him to the ground.

The suspect vehicle is described as an early 2000s maroon Chevrolet full size pick-up truck. The vehicle has new damage to both the driver's side and passenger side, with the passenger side mirror being torn off.

The suspects are described as white males approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. One had a short beard and the other was clean shaven.

A tool belt with tools was also found at the scene, which led deputies to believe the suspects may have been in the area working as subcontractors or doing handyman jobs.

The incident is being investigated as both attempted murder and aggravated burglary.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office at (423) 272-4848.
