McMinn County man accused of murdering his uncle

ATHENS (WATE) - A McMinn County man was shot to death by his own nephew Tuesday afternoon, according to the sheriff's department.

Sheriff Joe Guy says deputies were called to a home on County Road 213 just before 2 p.m. and spoke to William Goins, 27, about an ongoing dispute with his cousin Tabitha Ghorley, who also lived at the home.

Tabitha Ghorley was not present at the time. She arrived about 15 minutes later with her father Bobby Ghorley, 49.

At some point, according to witnesses, Bobby Ghorley and William Goins' father Billy Goins got into a fight.

Sheriff Guy says William Goins then drew a small caliber handgun and shot his uncle Bobby Ghorley.

William Goins surrendered to authorities without incident. Bobby Ghorley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Goins is now charged with second degree murder and booked into the McMinn County Justice Center without bond.
